Many of you will have already heard that the venerable George Pipas has passed away.

Got one e-mail when I checked earlier today, followed almost immediately by an instant message, both with the same news.

As best as I can deduce from the very limited information available to me right this moment -- shortly after 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 22, 2008, Texas time [where I am now] -- George passed away sometime Tuesday afternoon, Bangkok time.

As most people know, George was an institution in his own right after nearly half a century in Bangkok.

George was 86 years old, and will be sorely, sorely missed.
